Sewing 101: A Beginner’s Sewing Machine Workshop

Have you wanted to learn to sew? But its too intimidating? Do you have a sewing machine sitting in your cupboard gathering dust? Does your sewing machine look too complicated to use?

Welcome to the sewing machine workshop. I’m so excited to be your guide through the world of sewing!

What will I learn?

In this workshop, you will learn how to use a sewing machine confidently. You will start with the basics, such as threading your machine and winding up that little bobbin. Then, you will progress to more advanced skills, such as exploring different stitches, learning various sewing techniques and embroidering with your machine. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to tackle your own projects with confidence and ease!

• Part 1: You will tackle the basics of threading your machine and winding up that little bobbin. I’ll also show you how to switch out your needles and sewing foot, and how to reverse and go forward with your stitching. And don’t you worry, we’ll practice stitching in straight lines. It’s gonna be a breeze, I promise. Before you know it, you’ll be a pro at setting up your machine!
• Part 2: You will dive into the wonderful world of stitches! I’ll show you the various stitches and it’s uses. You will get to try out embroidery techniques if your machine has that feature.
• Part 3: is where you will learn about identifying different fabrics and what projects they are suitable for. We will discuss the different needles you will need for the different fabrics. We’ll cover all the needle types and stitches needed for different fabrics, even stretch fabrics. Trust me, sewing stretchy stuff isn’t as scary as it seems.
• Part 4: we’ll troubleshoot any issues with the machine and I’ll teach you how to oil and maintain it like a pro. You’ll leave this workshop feeling confident and ready to take on any sewing project that comes your way!

But, let’s not forget that sewing is more than just a craft – it’s a way to relax and de-stress after a long day. You’ll unleash your creativity and create something beautiful with your own hands. I promise, with the help of this sewing machine workshop, it will be  super rewarding!

What do I need to bring?

• Bring your own sewing machine if you haven’t paid for a machine loan
• Sewing machine manual and all the accessories the machine came with, if it’s you are bringing own sewing machine
• Bobbin, bobbin case if applicable for your own machine
• Machine sewing threads – 2/3 colours if you have them
• A full sewing kit. You can purchase a carefully curated sewing kit from us if you wanted to
• Notepad and pen

Please note that I will have spare tools, scissors and threads available if you don’t have any to bring along.

How many people attend the workshop?

General group sessions are usually maximum of 6 people.  Private sewing course can be organized for your group of 5-8 participants. Please send me a message.

I offer private one-to-one and private group sessions at your chosen location, whether it’s your home, office, or any other suitable venue. You can learn to sew at your own pace and convenience, with personalised guidance and support. You can create your own sewing course.

Book a private session. You can invite up to five more friends to join you or you can use it as a one-to-one session too. It’s a great way to have fun and learn a new skill together. All of your participants will need to bring their sewing machine and a basic sewing kit. But don’t worry. I will help you get organised for the day.
