Visible Mending Class – Sashiko & Boro Mending
Do you have a pair of clothing that you love but have a tear or a hole in them? Don’t throw them away! Learn how to mend them with style and flair in this fun and creative workshop. This sashiko workshop will teach you the geometrical designs that is typical of sashiko embroidery and show you how to use this as a boro mending technique
What will I learn?
In this visible mending class, you will learn the repairing your clothing using Sashiko embroidery & Boro mending techniques. Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery method that uses simple stitches to create beautiful patterns and designs on the fabric. You will learn how to:
- Prepare the clothing for mending
- Learn how to prepare and add a patch
- Design, plot and mark your stitching lines ready for sewing
- Practice your Sashiko embroidery and understand how to start and finish your mend
We will provide some examples of visible mending that will inspire you to create your own. All tools needed to plan, plot and draw out your patterns will be provided.

What do I need to bring?

- Bring your torn clothing if you have one or work on a sampler provided by us. Here’s what will be suitable:
- Clothing made from the following fabrics: Jeans, Linen, Corduroy, Sweatshirt or fabrics of similar weight
- Or bring a garment that you want to embellish
- Any fabrics you want to use as embellishment / applique
- Needle & Thread – embroidery threads if you have it
- A pair of sharp scissors
- Notepad and pen
- You can buy a curated mending kit from us. Send us an email
